The Nightingale Book Review

Overall Rating~ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tbh, I didn’t really expect to love this as much as I did. I don’t usually read historical fiction,,,,it’s just not my thing. But I am so glad I picked this up! I am super late to the kristin hannah party but hey, at least I am here now!

The story is set in German-occupied France against the backdrop of WW2.
The author manages to portray the details in a terrifyingly convincing way and does an incredible job with the descriptions and the writing.

For some reason, I had expected the plot to be slow-paced and heavily character-driven. It was, certainly, character-driven but was by no means, slow paced. I finished the book in 2 sittings,,, it was un-put-down-able.

Generally, when there are 2 or more protagonists, I always find that I relate to one slightly more than the other(s). But in this case, I felt soo deeply for both Vianne and Isabelle. They were both incredibly brave and I loved their characters so much!

I don’t know why but I thought of Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns when I was reading this. I guess there are a few similarities between the 2 books – both revolve around 2 women, there’s historical aspects but most importantly, both are survival stories.

I am definitely gonna read more of kristin hannah’s books now! If this was anything to go by,,, I am in for a ride!

Hope everyone’s doing great! Love x
